As part of Made in Yorkshire’s Exhibitor Spotlight series, one of the MIY team recently caught up with us to hear how things are progressing at our site here in Pickering.
1. In one sentence – what does Contract Production do best?
We specialise in PCB assembly and test services, including full product box builds, delivering high-quality, customer-focused electronic manufacturing solutions across both prototype and production volume builds.
2. What’s the driving mission or purpose behind Contract Production right now?
Our mission is to deliver high-quality electronic assemblies through expert manufacturing, assembly, and testing, while forging collaborative partnerships with our customers that last.
3. What’s been the biggest milestone over the past 12 months?
In early 2025, we installed and commissioned a cutting-edge surface mount 3D AOI inspection system. This state-of-the-art equipment allows us to inspect and validate fully assembled PCBs in 3D, at high speed and with exceptional detail. It reduces false calls, improves end-of-line quality, enhances process efficiency, and increases yields - a real step forward in both capability and reliability.
4. Any exciting developments on the horizon?
We are continuously investing in improvements across the business. On the roadmap are new manufacturing systems and equipment, including automated selective soldering, vapour phase reflow technology, and X-Ray inspection. These investments will expand our capacity and capability, while ensuring we remain a trusted partner for customers with increasingly complex requirements.
5. Something surprising or little-known about us…
During the global uncertainty and supply chain chaos of the Covid-19 pandemic, we successfully delivered one of our largest-ever export orders: 247 sound-measurement kits for fellow MIY member, Cirrus Research plc, destined for the Delhi Police. From manufacture to assembly, testing and calibration, everything was completed in a record-breaking four weeks.
